My speech.

Animal captivity.

Do you like to see animals roaming around free or do you like to see them in stuck small cages where they can not move? Hi my name is Claire and today I am going to talk about animal Captivity. Well, I like to see happy animals and not sad animals. That’s why today I am going to talk about why I think that animal captivity is bad.

Imagine this, you are a wild animal and you are just minding your own business. Then you go to find some food, suddenly a net is thrown on top of you and you are put in a box. After a few hours you are in a place where you have no idea where you are. Some people are banging on the glass to get your attention. How would you feel?

Around the world there are lots of animals kept in zoos, there are about seven hundred fifty one thousand, nine hundred thirty one animals in zoos around the world. In Auckland there are about 1.377 million people. The number of animals in zoos is nearly half of the population of Auckland! We should do something about this.

Next I am going to talk about the room in the zoos. Wild animals should roam free in the wild instead of being stuck in zoos. Animals should not be kept in cages. It is cruel because they cannot stay fit which will lead to them being unhappy and unhealthy. Space is a big issue!

Here is another horrible thing: Taking animals away from their families. Animals shouldn’t be taken away from their families. They would be sad and lonely without them. How would you feel if you were put in a place where you could not be with your family?

Another thing is health problems. Researchers have observed African zoo elephants with life spans live for about 17 years and wild ones in Amboseli National Parks lived for about 36 years. This is twice as long comparing to the ones living in the African zoos. They must have a happier life, I feel sorry for the elephants that live in zoos.

I strongly believe that there should be wildlife parks instead of zoos. It could be better for the animals and us. Firstly, the animals would have a life with freedom and fresh air. Secondly, people could step into a place with animals quite close up to have a good planet education.

We should all come together and stop animal captivity. You wouldn’t want to pay to see sad animals, would you? How would you feel if you were put in a cage?

Thank you for listening to my speech.
